Angels in America's Kathleen Chalfant and Maggie Gyllenhaal, star of the current film "Secretary," will take part in a one-night-only reading of The Ruby Sunrise on Monday, Nov. 11.

Rinne Goff's play, set in 1927 rural Indiana, concerns a teenaged girl — Ruby — who hopes to invent television; years later, Ruby's granddaughter tries to keep her story and dream alive. Others in the cast include Proof's Ben Shenkman, "Once and Again" actress Marin Hinkle as well as Noah Bean and Pauline Boyd.

Presented by the Ars Nova Theater and The Underwood Theater, The Ruby Sunrise is part of the Out Loud series, which offers new plays from emerging playwrights. To date, Out Loud has presented the works of Stephen Adly Guirgis, Stephen Belber, Jonathan Marc Sherman, David Schulner, Julian Sheppard, Rogelio Martinez, Daniel Goldfarb, Jorge Ignacio Cortinas and Javon Johnson; actors who have taken part in the weekly play-reading series include Mercedes Ruehl, David Straithairn, Robert Seon Leonard, Richard Kind, Peter Frechette, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Josh Hamilton and Jessica Hecht.

The Ars Nova Theater is located in New York City at 511 W. 54th Street. The Out Loud series is free and open to the public; show time is 7 PM. Call (212) 977-1700 for reservations.
